Job description

Overview:

CareerFoundry is building the number one online destination for career changers, and we’re looking for a detail-oriented, organized editor to join our curriculum team. As a curriculum editor, you will be working alongside the curriculum and instructional designers to improve the quality of CareerFoundry courses. 

In addition to being an English grammar expert, you should be able to understand technical content and how to explain it to novices as well as have some experience with education and teaching.

This is a full-time position based in our office in Berlin, Germany.


Mission as a Curriculum Editor:

Perform thorough copy and substantive edits on course content, pre- and post-launch, to deliver a consistent, high-quality student learning experience.


Responsibilities:

Editing and proofreading

  • Work closely with the curriculum team and subject matter experts (SMEs) to perform substantive edits on all courses 
  • Conduct regular plagiarism checks on existing and upcoming courses
  • Copyedit and write scripts, quizzes, and other written and multimedia components of CareerFoundry courses
  • Contribute to the CareerFoundry course content style guide and improve editorial standards
  • Work cross-functionally with other teams to copy edit and write curriculum-related communications

Course quality and QA

  • Collaborate with the curriculum designers to provide ongoing editorial guidance
  • Create and maintain project-based style guides for upcoming projects

  • Conduct regular reviews and updates to maintain course quality and content consistency

  • Assist with the quality assurance process for pre- and post-launch courses

  • Work closely with external subject matter experts to review and improve the content and structure of live courses

  • Respond to, organize, and prioritize student feedback on course content and quality

Project coordination and management

  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training subject matter experts
  • Facilitate regular check-ins with subject matter experts including freelance course writers, reviewers, and mentors

Research and best practices 

  • Contribute to regular assessments of the curriculum team’s course development and production process
  • Research best practices in e-learning and editorial practices to help improve course quality
  • Perform job skills benchmarking research to ensure all course content is up-to-date with current job market requirements

This is a “Mid Level 1” position. The salary band for this lies between EUR 33.000,- and EUR 36.000,- annual gross. Your relevant experience will influence the final salary.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

  • 2-4 years experience with editing content, including copyediting, copywriting, and proofreading

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Experience managing editorial and content production timelines independently

  • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style or another major style guide 

  • Excellent writing and editing skills in American English as well as the ability to adopt the style, tone, and voice of CareerFoundry

Desired:

  • Experience with teaching (can include mentoring or tutoring) or working with instructional materials 

  • Experience editing technical content on topics such as web development, data analysis, or UI design
